About KOFIHKOFIH Cambodia Office Provides Emergency Essential Supplies to Displaced Persons in Banteay Meanchey Province
The Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH) has delivered emergency relief supplies to displaced persons in Banteay Meanchey Province who lost their homes due to the recent border conflict between Cambodia and Thailand. In addition, KOFIH supported public health activities of the Provincial Department of Health to strengthen infectious disease management.
Following armed clashes in last December, Banteay Meanchey Province established numerous evacuation shelters to accommodate approximately 54,895 displaced households, totaling around 183,587 individuals. However, overcrowded conditions in confined spaces significantly increased the risk of infectious disease transmission, creating an urgent need for humanitarian assistance and public health support.
Despite the ceasefire that took effect on December 27, many displaced persons have yet to return home. In response, KOFIH provided ▲550 tents ▲400 blankets ▲500 mat sets ▲10,000 bottles of drinking water ▲approximately 1,000 emergency food packages. To prevent mosquito-borne diseases and improve hygiene conditions, KOFIH also distributed ▲500 mosquito nets ▲500 mosquito repellents ▲1,000 detergents ▲500 towels.
This emergency assistance was carried out as part of the “Strengthening for Communicable Disease Control of Border Region in Northwest Cambodia (2023–2026)” project implemented by KOFIH. The activities were covered by local Cambodian media and received attention from the local community. KOFIH will continue to promote global health cooperation to protect vulnerable populations and enhance public health safety in conflict and disaster-affected situations.
