For 10 days from October 17th to 26th(Monday), KOFIH visited Avissawella Local Hospital in Sri Lank and gave cleft lip surgeries to 30 child patients from the western region of Colombo and brought back their smile. In Sri Lanka, there are only few national hospitals(Free of Charge) capable of conducting cleft lip surgeries. Therefore, there aren`t many experienced doctors with skills. The cleft lip surgeries conducted by KOFIH`s medical staff members along with the field medical staff members from Sri Lanka enhanced the medical level and transfer of technology to fields involved. Therefore, it maximized the effectiveness of the project as well. In every year, approximately 5,000~6,000 children born in sri Lanka require cleft lip surgeries. However, lack of specialized plastic surgeons and medical technologies limits cleft lip surgeries to 1/4 of the patients. These surgeries conducted by KOFIH`s medical staff members have become an opportunity to transfer South Korea`s medical technologies in the plastic surgery which performs a leading role in Asia.
