Georgia wins the 1st Lee, Jong Wook`s Public Health Memorial Prize

Lee, Jong Wook`s Public Health Memorial Prize(hereinafter referred to as `Lee Jong Wook`s Prize`) co-hosted by WHO and KOFIH selected Georgia `IDACIRC`(Infectious Diseases, AIDS and Clinical Immunology Research Center) as the first winner of Lee, Jong Wook`s Prize and it is scheduled to be awarded on May 21st during WHO`s General Meeting. To commemorate Late Lee, Jong Wook`s achievements, the former director general of WHO, KOFIH, a subordinate organization of the Ministry for Health, Welfare, and Family Affairs, and WHO will be annually rewarding Lee, Jong Wook`s Prize from 2009 to one individual, organization, government-involved organization, or non-government-involved organization showing outstanding performance in controlling neglected tropical diseases, control/research on communicable diseases, prevention/treatment/control/research on HIV/AID. The prize money will be $85,000 USD. Georgia `IDACIRC` began its research in 1985 when the AIDS examination center was installed on the hospital specialized in communicable diseases. It is currently conducting a role of adjusting/controlling all activities of HIV/AIDS fields in Georgia. Georgia is known as one of the best newly established countries in Eastern Europe making contributions to AIDS control services. The chief of IDACIRC who became the first winner of Lee, Jong Wook`s Prize quoted "Receiving such prize from WHO itself is an honor. The government of Georgia and the government officials involved in healthcare fields are very honored to be the first winner of Lee, Jong Wook`s Prize, a prize to commemorate Late Lee, Jong Wook who made great contributions to developing health in the world" and he quoted "I believe that this reward of Lee, Jong Wook`s Prize will reinforce the mutual goodwill and partnership between Georgia and Korea." On May 21st after the award, Park, Jong Hwa, the president of KOFIH, recalled performances of Late Lee, Jong Wook, the former director general of WHO who dedicated himself entirely to prepare against influenza infections, and quoted "Late Lee, Jong Wook`s insights were probably the love to widely benefit our world" and he also quoted "I hope that this day may become a day for us all to think about how to realize and share the public love remaining for the mankind". KOFIH conducting projects to commemorate Late Lee, Jong Wook, the former director general of WHO, on behalf of the government of South Korea has been conducting projects to commemorate Late Lee, Jong Wook by co-establishing and co-managing `Lee, Jong Wook`s Award` with WHO, providing support for `Lee, Jong Wook`s Bibliography` published by WHO, running Lee, Jong Wook`s Fellowship, a project for provision of education on healthcare human resources to developing countries, and running Lee, Jong Wook`s Reference Room. From May 27th(Wednesday to 31st(Sunday), KOFIH will be hosting `3rd Photo Exhibition to commemorate late Lee, Jong Wook, the former director general of WHO, at the second theater of the metro art gallery located within the Kyungbuk palace station on subway line 3. The display consists of late Lee, Jong Wook`s photos, the first Korean chief of international organization, showing his visits to Madagascar, Mauritius, Kenya, Pakistan, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and South Africa. The display will also include photo-records representing 60-year history of WHO, an organization established in 1945 with a motto of `Health for all men".
