Provision of Free Health Inspection for Foreign Migrant Workers through `Mobile Clinic’(April 20)

On April 20th, `Mobile Clinic`, KOFIH`s vehicle for free inspections, received a request from the Migrant Health Association in Korea(President Kim, Seong Soo) and conducted its movement to Dongbu Primary School located in Hanam-Si Gyeonggi-Do to give free treatments to foreign migrant workers.
5 organizations including KOFIH`s international medical assistance team, the Migrant Health Association in Korea, Agape Clinic(Chief Kim, Tae Hee) of the Medical Mission Work Committee of Jeong-Dong Jeil Church located in Jung-Gu, Seoul, Hanam Home of Foreign Migrant Workers(President, Woo, In Sik), and Hanam International Foreigner Center(President Kim, Chan Ho) provided treatments on this day from 1PM to 5PM. 86 foreign migrant workers participated and received 112 diagnosis cases.
To distribute the patients who received treatments according to result of preliminary medical examinations after conducting blood pressure measuring, clinical pathological inspections, and height/weight measuring, the patients received complete medical examinations from specialists of gynecology, dentist, internal medicine, surgery, and urology.
The medical staff members and foreign migrant workers who participated in this treatment observed `mobile clinic` and quoted "Such system is at a level equivalent to that of general hospitals` and also quoted "To provide medical benefits to the greater number of foreign migrant workers, mobile clinic with facilities of diverse departments is required".
Foreign migrant workers who received treatments consisted of 50 people from Mongolia, 13 from Bangladesh, 4 from Vietnam, 1 from Laos, 1 from Thailand, 1 from Cambodia, 1 from Japan, and 1 from Nepal. 58% of the entire foreign migrant workers were from Mongolia. The ratio of gender was 50% and 50% for male and female respectively.
As a reference, foreign migrant workers and immigrants within Hanam region of Gyeonggi-Do are approximately 6,000 people. Such people make up 4.6% of 130,000 people, the overall population of Hanam-Si. Such rate indicates the proportion at least twice higher than 2.0%, the proportion of foreign migrant workers and immigrants living in South Korea
