From March 14 to March 16, KOFIH conducted `33rd South Korea/North Korea`s Co-treatment`, one of the projects providing support for healthcare in North Korea by assisting Onjeong People`s Hospital located at Onjeong-Ri, Goseong-gun, Gangwon-Do, North Korea.
In this co-treatment conducted by No, Kwang Ul, the secretary general(gynecology specialist), 4 medical staff members specialized in gynecology/surgery and oriental medicine, and members of the international medical assistance team, 29 North Korean people(13 in gynecology, 4 in surgery, and 12 in oriental medicine) received medical benefits through this co-treatment.
The section chief Kim, Chul Soo of Gyeonggi-Do Ilsan Hospital through ultrasonic inspection checked the health of a pregnant woman and her embryo while performing cystectomy as well. In particular, a doctor who participated in this co-treatment as a medical staff member of northern gynecology was found to be pregnant. Therefore, the section chief Kim, Chul Soo wished for a healthy childbirth by inspecting status of the mother and her embryo through an ultrasonic inspection.
In the surgery, the section chief Lee, Sang Hoon of Ilsan Hospital took charge and performed cyst/scar removal.
Lee, Joo Kwan, an information doctor of KOFIH, diagnosed 12 patients through giving medical examinations by interviewing and checking pulses. He found out that most of the patients were suffering from diseases related to digestive/respiratory organs or muscle pain. The medicine in a form of granules instead of a pack form were prescribed to the patients from the section of oriental medicine.
Granules is very convenient since it can be taken at anytime and anywhere if water is available. This form of medicine very much suits the lifestyle of residents in North Korea. The prescription of herbal decoction was practically impossible not only because medicinal herbs cannot be prepared, but also because the equipment required for boiling of the medicinal herbs was not available.
KOFIH sent laboratory supplies and supplies for parasite inspection scheduled in upcoming April.
34th South Korea/North Korea`s Co-treatment is scheduled from April 11 to April 12. The treatment scheduled will be based on gynecology/internal medicine/family medicine/orthopedics/ophthalmology.
