Ceremony for Establishment of `Mobile Clinic` for Provision of Free Treatment to Foreign Migrant Workers

On February 17th, KOFIH(President Park, Jong Hwa), a government-involved organization providing support for healthcare in North Korea and other developing countries, conducted an opening ceremony for establishment of Mobile Clinic, a vehicle for provision of free treatments for foreign migrant workers, at Clinic for Foreign Migrant Workers(Garibong-Dong, Guro-Gu, Seoul). After the ceremony, free treatments involving dentistry, gynecology, ophthalmology, internal medicine, ENT, and urology were provided based on volunteer services. On this day, approximately 350 foreign migrant workers received free treatment benefits on the mobile clinic equipped with dental/gynecology systems and functions of hospital. In this ceremony, KOFIH, the Ministry of Health and Welfare(Deputy Director Song, Byung Il), the Ministry of Labor(Deputy Director Lee, Mun Gyoo), KMA(Planning Executive An, Yang Soo & Policy Executive Jang, Jin Ho), Grand Korea Leisure Co.,Ltd(Deputy Department Head Kim, Seung Gil & Manager Lee, Seon Young), and members from the Hospital for Foreign Migrant Workers showed up. Medical staff members who participated in this medical volunteer service are the members of the International Medical Assistance Team co-established and co-run by KOFIH and KMA. This event was the first activity after the welcoming ceremony held on February 2nd. The team will be sent frequently to developing countries and North Korea to provide support for medicine. The doctors who participated in this event are as follows. △Gynecologist Choi, Kyung Sook(Director of Dongseo Gynecology), Jeong, Do Young(Section Chief of Mizmedi Hospital) △Dentist Han, Gi Wook(Iaan Dental) △Physician Jang, Jin Ho(Director of Jang, Jin Ho Internal Medicine) △Ophthalmologist Kim, Seong Eun(Yeongdong Severance) △Otorhinolaryngologist Choi, Jeong Chul(Otorhinolaryngology) △Dermatologist/Urologist Jeong, Deok Young(Daejeon Urology) and △Radiologist Yoon, Yeo Dong(21st Century Clinic) The mobile clinic began operating from this day and it will run on weekends for foreign migrant workers in Korea. It will run three times a month at the free treatment center for foreign migrant workers based on application system. Once a month the mobile clinic will be run based on a form of provincial system with KOFIH`s international medical assistance team. Lately, Grand Korea Leisure Co.,Ltd supported funding of 200,000,000Won to KOFIH and the mobile clinic was manufactured based on such funding. The mobile clinic contains dental/gynecology functions as well as functions for simple operations. Therefore, the path is widened to provide healthcare services to foreign migrant workers living in areas neglected of medical benefits. Dental unit, dental x-ray shooter, gynecology examination table, treatment room, dressing room, examination room, and power plant are installed on the mobile clinic. The mobile clinic is all-weather mobile hospital. In November and December of 2007, KOFIH conducted a project to provide 28 kinds of free physical examinations to foreign migrant workers at 15 hospitals nationwide including Seoul/Gyeonggi areas. Approximately 5,600 foreign migrant workers received medical benefits.
