From 01 December 2007 to 28 December 2007, KOFIH invited 11 persons involved in healthcare fields including Uzbekistan doctors and administrative officers for training. This project was promoted as `Lee, Jong Wook`s Fellowship Training Program` to commemorate Late Lee, Jong Wook, the former WHO director general. The participants included Alim Janova, secretary general of `Soglom Avlod Uchun International Charity Foundation` of Uzbekistan, Narjulevna, the deputy director of the State Health Department of Tashkent, and 9 doctors from Orta Chirchiq Children Hospital and Alicia Tibiyot Hospital. Orta Chirchiq Children Hospital reopened in October 2007 based on the support provided by KOFIH. In particular, pediatrician Tsoi and surgeon Lavshanbek from Orta Chirchiq Children Hospital performed their training in surgery, pediatrics, and surgery ward of Ewha Women`s University Mok-Dong Hospital for 28 days. They participated in OPD along with Korean doctors and monitored a number of operations involving stomach cancer ? thyroid ? celioscope cholecystectomy ? celioscope pancreas tumor ? herniotomy ? colon tumor ? diverticulum ? angiography ? infantile hernia. In addition, they also received education on flexible colonofiberscope, abdominal ultrasound machine, and echocardiography. Mr. Tsoi quoted "I envied the high level of medical equipment and capabilities of medical staff members" and quoted "We don`t have such modern medical equipment in Uzbekistan. Learning about such medical equipment was helpful. I would like to learn Korean or English later on to educate myself for additional 6 months on abdominal ultrasound machine in particular". She also quoted "Seoul is beautiful and there are so many interesting things to do". Mr. Lavshanbek quoted "One month is way too short" and quoted "Gastric resection was amazing and I would like to study for another 6 months to handle a procedure myself for a Korean patient". From December 8th to 14th, a training was given to 7 doctors including Tursanby, the director of Orta Chirchiq Children Hospital, pediatricians, and a doctor from the department of anesthesiology. The trainees completed CPR curriculum in Yonsei Severance Hospital. The purpose of this training was to enhance the effectiveness of the project to provide support for Orta Chirchiq Children Hospital promoted by KOFIH through giving medical staff members an education and tour on advance medical facilities. The training group visited Ewha Women`s University Mok-Dong Hospital, Yonsei Medical Clinic, National Medical Clinic, Seoul Jung-Gu Health Clinic, Community Chest of Korea, and Planned Population Federation of Korea. Through such visits, the training group learned about △advance medical facilities and advance medical activities, △status and overall conditions of Korean healthcare systems, △status of international co-projects involving Korean healthcare, △CPR education, and △status of the project for health of mother and child & childbirth promotion plan. Uzbekistan training group was very passionate in learning high-level medical practices held by Korean doctor. The training group after completing the training mentioned in a questionnaire and free discussion that they were surprised by high level of the medical technology in Korea and state-of-the-art medical equipment in all organizations. They also mentioned that this short-term education and tour were very effective. In particular, they mentioned that CPR training and practice will be applied right away when they return to Uzbekistan and that as a result, the overall training was very helpful in reinforcing their self-capacity in the field of medicine. However, the term for training was very short and the training group wanted to learn Korean or English when they return to seek another chance to visit South Korea to receive structural education on medical technology while staying in Korea for over 6 months. For such matter, the training group showed their high willingness to learn English or Korean immediately. The training group hoped to maintain a cooperative relationship with South Korea for an education on advance medical technology. They promised to perform the very best of their endeavors to apply South Korea`s outstanding program for health of mother and child to Uzbekistan and also demanded a continuous support from Korea. They mentioned no inconveniences during their stay in Korea for this training and praised hospitality of South Korean people and South Korea`s electronically civilized society. The followings are the questionnaire results written by the trainees who received this training for 7 days. “I visited 1st/2nd/3rd hospitals. I was amazed by the use of modern medical equipment and automatized tasking of medical man. I was inspired by the technique, hospitality, patriotism, patience, and mind of medical man willing to be the best in everything. I would like to visit an orphanage or boarding school. In addition, I would also like to view social welfare services in Korea and NGO activities". “Everything is new and I`ve seen nothing like what I saw. It is too bad that the term was too short for me to gain structural and organized information regarding actual tasking in public or private clinic. I am looking forward to learning the childbirth adjusting program in Korea to promote educational training on this issue when I return. Outstanding educational programs such as information on postnatal care center and new method of treatment for diverse diseases of children and pregnant woman should be actively promoted in Orta Chirchiq Children Hospital". “The medical equipment in cardiovascular center of Yonsei Severance Hospital was outstanding in particular. I felt that learning must be performed at all times. It is too bad that I don`t speak Korean". “I would like to know and study a number of things to help the poor and to save their lives. I earnestly seek for the support from Korea. I would like to not only save Uzbekistan/Korean patients, but also every patient in the world." “The attitude of doctors dealing with patients, the rules, and medical equipment are all amazing. Medicine in South Korea is progressive. South Korea is beautiful and clean. South Korean people are hard-working and they show a good hospitality." "The training program run by KOFIH is excellent. I would like to learn more. South Korea is a civilized country. Each and every employee working in hospital is very aware of one`s role and obligation. Everything being computerized is very impressive." “South Korea is a city of electronics. The city is clean and people are polite." “The medical equipment in cardiovascular center of Yonsei Severance Hospital was outstanding. I would like to study for at least three more months. I would like to show my gratitude for allowing me to experience this huge shock and attitude of learning. I`m wishing the best of tremendous success." “It is sad that the term for training is short. The way that Korean doctors work is impressive. I would like to focus on studying intensive care unit and anesthesiology unit for three more months." “I went through the critical patient program in cardiovascular center and pediatrics of Yonsei Severance Hospital. I would like to do a further study on cardiovascular."
