The purpose of this project is to △conduct an inspection of parasites to explore infected areas in clonorchiasis, △perform early diagnosis of cholangioma through giving ultrasonic/clinical inspections to patients suffering from serious pahepatism, △provide an education on use of ultrasonic waves and to pass down technologies for the management of parasites to the actual people in charge of parasites management in Laos. The project team sent to Laos include Lim, Han Jong, an honorary professor of Korea University, Min, Deuk Young, an honorary professor of Hanyang University, An, Yoon Oak, a professor of preventive medicine of medical college of Seoul National University, Um, Gi Sun, a professor of parasitology of medical college of Chungbuk National University, Yong, Tae Soon, a professor of parasitology of medical college of Yonsei University, and Lim, Jae Hoon, a professor of Samsung Medical Clinic. The project team will promote this project for 2,000 people living in areas by distributing duties to separate groups. The groups can be divided into a group for investigation of infected areas, a group for inspection of parasites, a group for ultrasonic inspection, a group for administration of anthelmintic, and a group for intermediary inspection. This project has been continuously demanded by the Health Department of Laos and WHO Mission Office in Laos. KOFIH is co-promoting this project with the Ministry of Health and Welfare based on funding of 200,000,000Won for physical examination and 100,000,000Won for Polio vaccine and respirator support. On the other hand, it was observed that more than 50% of the residents living in central/southern areas of the Mekong River are infected by clonorchiasis. However, the Health Department of Laos contains no accurate statistics or diagnosis data.
