15th Visit to Onjeong People`s Hospital(Ophthalmology Operation, Internal Medicine ? Gynecology ? ENT Treatment)

From June 17th to 24th, KOFIH visited Onjeong People`s Hospital to conduct ophthalmology operation(cataract/pterygium) which is performed in two orders. Based on this operation, 34 cataract patients and 19 pterygium patients seized their opportunity to see the world with a bit brighter view.
On June 17th, The primary operation team(Choi, Kwang Ju, a section chief of ophthalmology of medical college of Joseon University, Kim, Jin Man, the director of Kwangju Eye Ophthalmology, nurse Choi, Yoon Mi/Choi, Yoo Jin, and Son, Jong Gook) visited Onjeong People`s Hospital and performed preparations a day after the day of visit to process the operation. Director Yoon, Jang Hyun sent reading glasses to Onjeong People`s Hospital. From June 18th, Onjeong People`s Hospital was full with patients who traveled long distance to receive their surgeries done.
From June 19th to 20th, professor Choi, Kwang Ju and director Kim, Jin Man performed operations on 14 cataract patients and 6 pterygium patients. In addition, 33 North Korean patients suffering from other eye diseases were treated as well. North Korean ophthalmology doctor from Goseong-Gun People`s Hospital visited during operations to monitor how the South Korean surgery team runs operations In addition, North Korean nurse and South Korean doctor performed a co-treatment for North Korean patients.
For 3 days from June 20th, the secondary surgery team(Lim, Dong Kwon, a director of Munsa Jeil Ophthalmology, Yoon, Tae Joong, a director of Gwangju Eye Ophthalmology, Seo, Jeong Seong, a director of Gwangju Eye Ophthalmology, and nurse Shin, Min Jeong/Jeong Kyung Oak) performed surgeries and treatments in Onjeong People`s Hospital. 20 cataract patients and 13 pterygium patients went through their surgeries, and 2 patients received cornea tattoo. Then 27 residents received ophthalmology treatment.
In addition, 7 North Korean residents received gynecology treatment(secretary general No, Kwang Ul & Park, Soo Young, a professor of medical college of Seonam University) 21 patients received ENT treatment(Kim, Nam Gul, a director of Medi-phil Otorhinolaryngology, and 18 patients received internal medicine treatment(Jo, Sang Gi, a section chief of circulatory system of internal medicine of Gwangju Christian Hospital).
KOFIH decided to build ophthalmology treatment center in Onjeong People`s Hospital to provide consistent ophthalmology treatment for North Korean residents. The construction of hospital remodeling will be co-promoted by KOFIH, National Health Insurance Corporation, and Industrial Bank of Korea. The construction including outdoor wall construction will begin in July and it is scheduled to be completed no later than October.
During July, ambulances was sent for a convenient transfer of the patients in Goseong-Gun Hospital to Onjeong People`s Hospital. Moreover, rehydration solution, mosquito insecticide, inspection reagent, and refrigerator piece for sample storing were sent as well.
