Park, Jong Hwa, the minister of Kyungdong Church, was appointed as the first president of KOFIH. Park is specialized in humanitarian fields such as treatment support for foreign migrant workers, management of alternative schools for North Korean defectors, and educational support for children in the East Timor. Therefore, he is expected to perform an important role to support healthcare of North Korea and other developing countries.
On June 12, No, Mu Hyun, the president of South Korea elected Park as the first president with three-year term of office in accordance to establishment and proclamation of the Acts of Korea Foundation for International healthcare. Yoo, Si Min, the Minister of Health and Welfare, presented the certificate of appointment to Park on June 16th.

Park comes from Boryeung of Chungnam. Park and his wife Kim, Hyun Sook have one son and one daughter. Park graduated from Gunsan High School, Hanshin University, Yonsei Graduate University(Combined Theology College), and Tubingen Graduate University(PhD in Theology). Park taught as professor of Hanshin University(1985~1994), president of the Presbyterian Church located in Korea, core minister of Kyungdong Church(1999~present), and as unification advisor for South Korean President Kim, Dae Joong. Currently, Park performs diverse activities as standing member and international chairperson of the Advisory on Democratic Peaceful Unification, central member of WCC, and executive member of KNCC.
KOFIH is expected to provide healthcare support for North Korea and developing countries with greater flexibility and related projects are currently being established and promoted by the government. Park gained specialized experiences in a field of humanitarian support and is expected to play a great role to lead cooperation between principal agents within societies of North Korea and developing countries.
On the other hand, KOFIH is a foundation newly re-established in December 2005 under establishment and proclamation of the `Acts of Korea Foundation for International Healthcare` and its origin is based upon the Foundation for International Healthcare, a foundation established in March 2004 by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and other healthcare-related organizations.
The Foundation for International Healthcare made a great performance in assisting North Korea and developing countries by providing support for earthquake/Tsunami-hit South Asian areas and disaster-hit Yongcheon areas in North Korea and by modernizing Eritrea Hospital in Africa, delivering medical equipment to Hanoi Cardiac Hospital in Vietnam, and providing medical supplies and medical equipment to North Korea.
